“The 𝐂𝐃𝐂 published a Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) on November 6th with very important information about 𝐂𝐎𝐕𝐈𝐃-𝟏𝟗 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐲.
📍They evaluated 400,000 symptomatic pregnant women and found:
🔺3 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘐𝘊𝘜 𝘢𝘥𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 in pregnant women
🔺2.5-3 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘣𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 in pregnant women
🔺2.5 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘌𝘊𝘔𝘖 (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation)
🔺𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘬 𝘰𝘧 𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩 in pregnant women (although overall rate was low – 1.5 per 1,000 cases)
These findings are present even when adjust for the pregnant moms age, race/ethnicity, and underlying medical conditions.
📍Additionally, a meta-analysis showed that 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐎𝐕𝐈𝐃-𝟏𝟗 than those without the disease.
📍With the increasing surge of COVID-19 cases in the United States, it is exceedingly important that all women who are trying to get pregnant, and who are currently pregnant to continue to take extra measures of social distancing and masking to ensure they are not exposed to the virus.”
